STONEWALL DEMOCRATS OF CENTRAL MARYLAND PAC ANNOUNCES ENDORSEMENTS

On July 14, 2010, members of the Stonewall Democrats of Central Maryland PAC (SDCM) met to vote on their first round of endorsed candidates for the 2010 Primary Election.

As Maryland's only grassroots Democratic LGBT organization, SDCM's mission is to encourage our community to support and vote for Democratic Party candidates who are committed to fairness and equality for LGBT persons and to lead/encourage the Democratic Party to improve its record on issues of social justice and equity, and to work for nomination of Democratic candidates who will be fully supportive of our fight against bigotry and intolerance.

"Our endorsed candidates are pro-quality Democrats who are now, or will be, elected officials who will stand up and consistently do the right thing to ensure equal protections for all Marylanders," said Genya Shimkin, Chair of SDCM's Endorsement Committee. "And, they will advocate within the Maryland Democratic Party for the rights of LGBTQ Marylanders and their families."

SDCM's Endorsement Committee sent out over 300 questionnaires to candidates running for State Senate, House of Delegates, County Offices and State Central Committees in the Central Maryland area (Baltimore City, Baltimore, Harford and Howard Counties). These candidate questionnaires were carefully evaluated, and the Endorsement Committee and Board of Directors presented the slate of candidates at a general membership meeting on July 14, 2010.

The following slate of candidates passed by a unanimous vote of members. "We are excited to support these candidates and their campaigns," said Shimkin. "We expect to complete a second round of endorsements within the next month and will continue to support candidates and campaigns through the Primary and General Elections this fall."

About Stonewall Democrats of Central Maryland (SDCM):
Stonewall Democrats of Central Maryland is Maryland's only grassroots Democratic Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Ttransgender (LGBT) organization. Stonewall Democrats create change in three ways: educating the LGBT community about the differences between the political parties; mobilizing the LGBT community to get out to vote on Election Day for fair-minded Democrats; and standing up when Republicans attack our families and our civil rights while we lead the Democratic party to continue improving its record on issues important to our community. Members represent every age range, geographic area, ethnicity and gender.
