Burlington is the largest city in the U.S. state of Vermont and the shire town (county seat) of Chittenden County. One measure of economic activity is retail sales. Burlington was fifth in the state in 2007 with $242.2 million. However, Burlington's economy is based mostly on education and health services; trade, transportation and utilities. There is some manufacturing. The largest employer in the city proper is Fletcher Allen Health Care and The University of Vermont (employing 4086 and 3137 people, respectively)
